Hold the Cinco de Mayo

One week after five high school students in California were sent home for wearing the American flag on their tee shirts, and I'm still waiting on that liberal righteous indignation. Nary, a peep. They fogghorned for days about Rush Limbaugh calling the Obama administration a 'regime'. They flipped out over Sarah Palin posting targets of congressional districts on her website. But, take away someone's first amendment rights, and... total silence.

The five, white, male, students wore the American flag shirts to school on Cinco de Mayo. Now, let's face it, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in the U.S. mainly by Gringos in Mexican restaurant chains. Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez scooped the boys up and told them to turn the shirts inside out, or go home. Rodriguez was supposedly concerned about the boys attire being 'incendiary', and possibly causing fights with Mexican students.

So, instead of protecting the minority's (the white five) right to dress as they please, the A.P. lets them know that "might makes right". The school basically told the boys, "We can't control the Mexicans, so you five have to do the wrong thing."

The next day, in full backpedal mode, the district superintendent said, "The Morgan Hill Unified School District does not prohibit nor do we discourage wearing patriotic clothing. The incident on May 5 at Live Oak High School is extremely unfortunate. While campus safety is our primary concern and administrators made decisions yesterday in an attempt to ensure campus safety, students should not, and will not, be disciplined for wearing patriotic clothing. This matter is under investigation and appropriate action will be taken."

We're still waiting, not holding our breath, but still waiting for that action to be taken. You would think that by now, the school board's shysters would have thrown out the standard two paragraph apology, along with some bogus policy review, and, of course, some diversity training for the assistant principal.

  1. Lets just say this is America. I don't see any one telling students wearing mexican flags to take them off or in the past shirts with Carl Marx on the shirts. I think we should all start wearing shirts with the logo "Illegal Mexicans go home". Now that would really stir up controversy.

  2. Hey Gene!

I've gotta learn to check out this site.

Did you hear the head of Homeland Security, former Governor of Arizona Janet Napolitano being questioned by John McCain today in a senate hearing? Here she's the head of our country's home security, she's bad mouthing the Arizona Immigration Law and admitted she hadn't even read it! What BS! I hope that tonight's election results are just the beginning. We need to vote all of these worthless people out!
